A Bombardier 415 operated by the Croatian Air Force, known as CL-415, recently made a surprise appearance on the car show “The Grand Tour.”
If you don’t already watch “The Grand Tour” I personally recommend that you start. It’s a great motoring program, hosted by the UK’s Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May (formerly of “Top Gear”). The trio travel all around the world, dreaming up insane things to do with cars of all sorts that most can only dream of and doing the sorts of things that most would be thrown in jail for. Sounds like a pretty good gig, if you can get it.
As great as the show itself can be, what we’re really here to talk about is the fact that CL-415 888, a Canadair Bombardier 415, also known as a “Superscooper” makes a huge cameo appearance. Take a look below at the trailer for the episode and you’ll see what we mean.
I’m not going to spoil the surprise for you of exactly when, where, and why the amphibious firefighting aircraft makes its appearance in the episode; you’ll have to watch it yourself to find that out. But we will take the time to point out that the CL-415 is capable of scooping 6,137 liters (1620 gallons) of water in just a 12-second run over water at a speed of 70-knots. That’s a huge amount of water in a short amount of time and is just one more reason why the CL-415 has become one of the most famous aerial firefighting planes around.
