Lack Of Support Kills Wings N Wheels For 2019
Event organizers for the Wings N Wheels event in Heist, close to Hamburg in Northern Germany, have announced their cancelling plans for repeating the quite famous and liked event, in 2019. Despite comparatively high visitor counts during the 2018 event, German guests and visitors managed to leave organizers on a pile of waste and spent less on food and drinks than in years past. Bringing food and drinks to an event in an effort to remain on the cheap side doesn’t exactly help organizers swing large expenses.
While the event never aimed at being profitable, people bringing their own food and drinks to events of such kind left the group of organizers stranded for funds and stuck on a pile of preparation and later cleanup work. Niels Mundry, one of the organizers spoke with us last month and shared that there may be hope to see an event again in 2020. Certainly a valid sign to help support small aviation events in (y)our neighborhood, as Chris Buckner pointed out in his opinion editorial a while ago.
Editors Note: Our Wings N Wheels coverage in 2018 was made possible by our top sponsor Wipaire, Inc. as well as the courtesies afforded to us by the event organizers themselves. Together with travel, food and lodging for two people, shining a light on this well organized event still cost our magazine close to 500 Euros. We keep event coverage expenses transparent for our readers, just to make sure there are no misunderstandings about why exactly we can’t cover most of the events we are invited to and why we no longer engage in so-called “media partnerships”, affording free promotions for revenue- generating events. As of this writing, our site has one confirmed sponsorship or advertising agreements in place for 2019.
