Altair Star: The Famous Double Sunrise Waterbird

This image comes to you courtesy of Tom Harwood, the Curator of the Quantas Founders Museum in Australia. Shown is the crew of Altair Star, one of five PBY Catalina’s used for the longest seaplane flights on record. Passengers of these planes would get to experience two sunrises during their journey. Tom shared the story behind it in a guest editorial.
